Press Release

Tuesday, November 03th 2013 CN295 Military Transport and CN235 Maritime Patrol Visit to Show Their Capabilities and Efficiency  Yesterday a CN295 military transport aircraft and a CN235 maritime patrol aircraft have landed at the Brunei International B.S. Begawan Airport Brunei Darussalam for participating in BRIDEX 2013 3 to 6 December 2013.

The Indonesian Ministry of Defense is bringing the aircrafts to promote the capabilities and efficiency of these aircrafts that PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is producing jointly with Airbus Military. The C295 (denominated CN295 in the Indonesian Ministry of Defense) and the CN235 are a heavy and a light medium-sized multirole aircraft respectively for both civil and military use. In BRIDEX 2013 PTDI will also explain the specific capabilities of the NC212i, an upgraded version of the C212 launched in November 2012 between PTDI and Airbus Military with new avionics and autopilot systems as well as an increased passenger seating, increasing its cost efficiency significantly.

The Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia and head of the Delegation, Lieutenant General (Retired) Sjafrie Sjamsuddien has stated the Indonesia’s reason to participate in BRIDEX 2013 a moment before departing to Brunei Darussalam: “We are promoting the use of a common defense system between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, the CN295 and the CN235 perfectly fit this objective.

We believe that a common use of the same types of aircraft in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam will strengthen our cooperation while significantly reducing the operational and maintenance costs of operating such aircraft. In the segment of small and medium aircraft, the CN295, CN235 and NC212i are the perfect solution for the type of missions we undertake in our region”. The Indonesia Air Force currently has two CN295s in operation out of the nine units ordered to PTDI.

By 2014, all of the nine units will be in service in Indonesia, with deliveries to the Indonesian Ministry of Defense taking place from the delivery centre and a final assembly line that PTDI and Airbus Military are setting up in Bandung, Indonesia, as a direct result of PTDI’s and Airbus Military’s Strategic Partnership signed in 2011. In total, over 120 C295s have been ordered world-wide from Airbus Military and currently almost 100 are in operation with countries such as Algeria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

Meanwhile, the CN235 and NC212, with sales of over 270 and 470 respectively, are operating successfully in over 50 countries in the world. The operators of CN295, CN235 and NC212 are extremely satisfied with the reliability, capability, and robustness of the aircraft, which are extremely easy to operate even in hostile and difficult environments. And as a result, the aircraft currently have the clear leadership in this segment. The Indonesia Air Force currently operates one CN235 Maritime Patrol as well as one unit by the Indonesia Navy. Another four units of CN235 maritime patrol are under production to be delivered to the Indonesia Navy. Other CN235 operators in Asia include Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan and Korea. About CN295 and CN235 The new generation of CN295 and CN235 are the ideal aircrafts for defense and civic missions to the benefit of society, such as humanitarian actions, maritime patrol, and environmental surveillance missions, among others.

Thanks to their robustness and reliability, and with simple systems, these heavy and light medium sized tactical airlifters provide wide versatility and flexibility, necessary for personnel, troop and bulky/palletized cargo transportation, casualty evacuation, communication and logistic duties or certified air-dropping capabilities. Their mix of dual technology civil/military equipment ensures success in demanding tactical mission, growth potential for future equipment as well as compatibility with the latest civil airspace environment. The CN295 can carry 9 tonnes of load or 71 personnel. It has a length of 24.45 m, a wingspan of 25.81 m, and cruising speed of 260 knots (480 km/hour).

The aircraft is pressurized and able to cruise at 25,000 feet, yet can operate at speeds down to 110 knots when required. The CN295 is a light weight aircraft designed to operate on unprepared runways (soft or hard and at CBR 3), and capable of short take-off and landing (STOL) operations.

It is equipped with retractable landing gear, powered by two 2,645shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines driving two six-blade Hamilton Sundstrand propellers. It is highly maneuverable, with excellent fuel consumption and 11 hours endurance which can be extended by air-to-air refueling if required (optional refueling probe also available). The CN235can carry 5.8 tonnes of load or 40 personnel. It has a length of 21.40 m, a wingspan of 27.30 m, maximum speed 236 knots and cruising speed of 209 knots (385 km/hour). The aircraft is pressurized and able tocruise at 18,000 feet, yet can operate at speeds down to 120 knots when required. It’s maximum range 2.274 miles. The CN235 is a light weight aircraft designed to operate on unprepared runways (soft or hard and at CBR 3), and capable of short take-off and landing (STOL) operations. It is equipped with retractable landinggear, powered by two 1,750shp General Dynamic CT7-9C turboprop engines driving two four-blade Hamilton Sundstrand propellers. It is highly maneuverable, with excellent fuel consumption and over 10 hours endurance.
