Prototype of the Second Aircraft N219 Success for The First Flight

BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com – The prototype of the second N219 aircraft carried out a flight test for the first time on Friday(21/12/2018).

The flight test was carried out by a female pilot, Captain Esther Gayatri Saleh as the Chief Test Pilot of PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI).

She was accompanied by Captain Ervan Gustanto as first officer (FO).

"(This flight test), is better than before. There is a huge improvement here. One of them is flight control improvement." Said Esther in an official statement on Friday (12/21/2018).

The prototype of the second N219 aircraft took off from Husein Sastranegara Airport at 07.50 WIB with a flight time of around 20 minutes.

The aircraft flew over the Saguling Reservoir, West Bandung Regency towards Sukabumi, then landed well at 8:10 at Husein Sastranegara Airport.

The Head of PT DI's Technology Center Division, Palmana Banandhi, stated that the company uses two aircraft prototypes to speed up the flight test certification process.
Both planes have their own missions.

Prototype of the first aircraft N219 Nurtanio will undergo a series of tests. There are completing performance and structure test.

While the prototype of the second N219 Nurtanio aircraft will be used for system test testing, such as avionic systems, electrical systems, flight control and propulsion.

"With the use of two prototypes as a vehicle for flight test certification, all flight test activities can be optimized because they are not only based on one plane. This allows the certificated type to be reached in 2019." Palmana said.

PT DI also prepares 2 other prototypes for fatigue test and static test.

PT DI will do 3000 cycle fatigue tests to be able to get the certificated type in 2019.

After getting the type certificate, the production stage begins to get the production certificate.

Thus, in 2019, the first aircraft N219 is ready and feasible to enter the market. Until now there are several prospective launch customers, one of them is the North Kalimantan Regional Government.

At the beginning of production, 6 units of N219 aircraft will be made using the production capacity currently available.

Furthermore, PT DI will upgrade production facilities with an automation system in manufacturing, so that the delivery capability will gradually increase to 36 units per year.

The N219 Nurtanio aircraft is expected to be an integrated, effective and efficient logistics distribution solution, so it will improve people's welfare.
