N219 Pioneer Aircraft Still Complete Flight Hours Before Mass Production

Jakarta - The N219 aircraft developed by PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) collaborate with the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (Lapan) still complete flight hours to get certified before being mass produced for transportation needs in Indonesia.

"We still need to increase flying hours, hopefully in this year it will be finished," said Director General of Research and Development Strengthening Kemenristekdikti, Dimyati in Jakarta, Wednesday (7/17), after a press conference pre-organizing of the National Expo for Science and Technology (NEST). He said, PT DI continues to develop aircraft technology made by Indonesian so it can be used on ashore and in waters with the type of amphibious.

"At this time the aircraft is only able to use in the field with short distances, but in the future it can also be in the waters," he said, quoted by Antara. If successful, domestic aircraft will be used as a support for tourism to remote areas as well as the transportation of goods and services.

He explained the concept of the amphibious pioneering aircraft was also motivated by BJ Habibie who wanted all remote areas to be reached. The concept refers to the geographical situation of Indonesia which has small islands with dense population. If you rely on ship transportation, so it takes a long time.

Therefore, the concept emerged to make small aircraft that do not need a broad field or airport as in general. "Then the amphibious model aircraft is also needed to reach small islands that have many mountains so it only can be traversed by waterways," he said. He hopes that if the pioneering N219 aircraft can be commercialized, communication between islands in Indonesia can be smoother so it encourages an increase in the national economy.
