Arah - A great breakthrough and innovation has recently been made by PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), which has successfully produced unmanned aircraft, named Nir Air Crew (PUNA) type Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) which is claimed to be able to fly continuously continuously for 24 hours.

Still in prototype form, the first generation of Puna Male is claimed to be able to fly for 24-30 hours with a cruise height of 3,000 to 6,000 meters intended to monitor the territory of the Republic of Indonesia from the threat of border areas, terrorism, smuggling, piracy and theft of natural resources.

The next two prototype units will follow in 2020, each for the purpose of flight testing and structural strength testing at BPPT.

Elfien Goentoro as President Director of PT DI said that the need for efficient air surveillance continues to increase along with the increasing threat of border areas, terrorism, smuggling, piracy, and theft of natural resources such as illegal logging and illegal fishing.

"The initiation of the development of the MALE PUNA has been started by the Ministry of Defense Balitbang since 2015 involving the TNI, the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, BPPT, ITB, and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero).

"Where the draft needs and objectives (DR&O) will be agreed to be operated by the TNI, especially the Air Force," he said at the PUNA Roll Out event at the PTDI Bandung Hangar, Monday (12/30/2019).
