akarta - In a limited meeting on February 6, 2020, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked that the mass production of drones, aka Indonesian drones, be accelerated. Initially targeted mass production in 2024, then it was decided to accelerate to 2022.
PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) immediately stated its ability in relation to the acceleration target. However, he said he needed an additional funding of approximately Rp. 70 billion.
"Production costs (additional) need Rp 60 billion-70 billion, this includes weapons and others," said PTDI President Director Elfien Goentoro in a hearing with the House of Representatives Commission VI at the DPR Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (12 / 2/2020).
To accelerate the procurement of production, the drone will be carried out by a consortium consisting of the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Ministry of Defense (Kemhan), Indonesian Air Force, LAPAN, PT LEN and PT Dirgantara Indonesia ( IN).
"We are asked for speed up, so we are integrating rather than the competitiveness of existing competition in Indonesia with 7 institutions in our republic, whose lead integrator is PT DI itself," he continued.
To note, the drones currently being produced by PTDI have a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) category.
The development of unmanned aircraft has been done since 2004. In fact, before that PT DI had also produced Wulung and Alap-Alap drones which had been tested for mapping and defense.
This unmanned aircraft, has the ability to fly above an altitude of 15,000 feet, where other PTTA is only able to fly under 10,000 feet. MALE also has a wide operating range of 5,000 kilometers (km) without stopping or being able to operate 24 hours a day.
This aircraft, can be used for needs with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (reconnaissance) missions, and will be continued with defense needs with armed combat missions (combat missions).
MALE is also capable of carrying loads up to 300 kilograms (kg) of rockets and weapons. In addition, this aircraft can also be equipped with camera sensors, signals and electronic intelligence.
With infrared sensors and radar owned by this aircraft, it can easily detect the intended object. This is important for operating a national defense mission.
