PTDI and ITB Sign Joint Commitment at IDF 2022

PRESS RELEASE

No. PTD/043/SP-HUMAS/XI/2022

Bali, November 21, 2022 - PTDI Public Relations

At the Indonesia Development Forum (IDF) 2022 at Movenpick Resort, Jimbaran, Bali, President Director of PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), Gita Amperiawan and Rector of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Reini Wirahadikusumah signed a Joint Commitment in building a competency center in the field of aircraft design, witnessed by the Minister of PPN RI / Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa.

In order to build and realize the Republic of Indonesia as a center of competence in aircraft design, PTDI and ITB agreed to build a joint strategy to improve and maintain Indonesia's interests in involving and optimizing the utilization of its human resources in the aircraft development process by global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). In addition, both parties also agreed to jointly develop sustainable aircraft design competencies, through domestic aircraft and aerospace development projects.

"Something that is very mandatory for industry is development, in the current situation where development is very expensive, then collaboration is very important. PTDI and ITB collaboration in terms of R&D will certainly be business-oriented and how we are able to meet existing demands. There is no limit to the scope, but the most important and top priority is the N219 and N219 Amphibian programs, and one of them we also want to build a collaborative design center," said Gita Amperiawan.

It is an initiative from PTDI and ITB to provide space and opportunities, as well as a forum for the development of the design industry in Indonesia, so that then the ideals of mastery of high technology aircraft can be pursued in a faster, appropriate and feasible time.

"In terms of ITB, this is not just ordinary teaching and research, but it must also be in the direction of downstream products, this is in line with the roadmap developed by the State. The link & match between Higher Education and Industry has actually been made for a long time, but with this commitment now the implementation is more concrete. PTDI and ITB will work on joint projects carried out in the same physical facilities, as is the trend of business models that have occurred in developed countries, where universities and industry will work mutually, "explained Reini Wirahadikusumah.

The organization of IDF 2022 by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas is a vehicle for development actors in Indonesia to gather and exchange ideas and thoughts. IDF 2022 focuses on industrial development in Indonesia which is expected to inspire IDF speakers and participants to think of new ideas about increasing industrial capacity in Indonesia in the future in creating added value from the resources owned (natural resources and human resources), as well as responding to dynamic market developments and technological development cycles that take place increasingly quickly.

Thus, the signing of the Joint Commitment between PTDI and ITB is expected to encourage the development and mastery of high-tech industrial independence which is one of the very important foundations in accelerating the pace of the Indonesian economy. So then the aerospace industry as one of the producers of high technology-based products can play an important role in the strategy to master industrial independence, because it is innovation-intensive, high-tech-intensive and job-intensive which can encourage the formation of high human resource competencies and ready to compete with other nations.
