PTDI–ShinMaywa MoU Becomes Indonesia’s Gateway to the Global Aircraft Supply Chain
Bandung — PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan-based aerospace company ShinMaywa Industries at the Singapore Airshow 2026 on Tuesday, February 4, 2026.
This cooperation opens the way for PTDI to deepen its involvement in the global supply chain for commercial aircraft aerostructure components.
The MoU was signed by PTDI’s Director of Commerce, Technology & Development, Moh. Arif Faisal, and the President of Aircraft Division of ShinMaywa Industries, Hideyuki Mochida, and was witnessed by PTDI President Director, Gita Amperiawan.
Through this agreement, PTDI will serve as a supplier of large-scale aerostructure components for global commercial aircraft programs, including Boeing, Airbus, and Bombardier.
PTDI’s involvement in the production of high-precision components positions the state-owned company as part of the global aerospace industry supply chain.
Such production requires strict compliance with international quality and certification standards that have long been benchmarks for global OEMs.
“This collaboration reflects the global industry’s trust in PTDI’s aerostructure manufacturing and engineering capabilities, while strengthening PTDI’s role in the global supply chain of leading aerospace OEMs,” said Moh. Arif Faisal in his press statement on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
For PTDI, cooperation with ShinMaywa not only expands its business portfolio but also serves as a strategy to maintain business sustainability amid pressure in the global aviation industry.
Demand for commercial aircraft has begun to recover; however, competition among component suppliers is becoming increasingly intense, accompanied by high demands for efficiency and quality.
The partnership is also expected to support knowledge transfer and the enhancement of human resource competencies.
Nevertheless, PTDI’s position as a component supplier also presents challenges, particularly in terms of industrial value added and dependence on global OEM demand.
In an economic context, the PTDI–ShinMaywa MoU reflects Indonesia’s efforts to maintain the relevance of its national aerospace industry amid global consolidation in the aviation sector.
The next challenge is to ensure that PTDI’s involvement does not stop at manufacturing, but continues to evolve toward greater technological mastery and stronger national industrial competitiveness.
