PTDI Expands Aircraft Maintenance Services to General Aviation Sector

Bandung (04/08) – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) continues to expand the scope of its Aircraft Services (ACS) as part of its business diversification strategy. No longer limited to military aircraft maintenance, PTDI is now actively reaching out to the general aviation sector and deepening its penetration into commercial aircraft maintenance with an increasingly diverse range of market segments and types of work.

IPTDI’s ACS encompasses comprehensive services such as Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) of aircraft, component repairs, structural modifications, Life Extension Programs, and specialized services including painting work and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections. All these services are carried out at PTDI's hangar facility in Bandung, which holds an Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) Certificate and Design Organization Approval (DOA) from the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations (DKPPU) of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, and is supported by a Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with ISO 9001 and AS/EN 9110 standards.

Now, PTDI is increasing the intensity of its expansion to capture opportunities in the non-military aircraft market. One of these efforts involves providing new livery paint services for general aviation, including various types of private jets such as the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ), Gulfstream G450/G550, and Embraer Legacy 600/650. These services can be expanded to include additional work based on customer requests and specifications. For commercial aircraft, particularly narrow-body aircraft, PTDI has recently completed painting work, along with seat replacement and additional tasks such as cabin refurbishment on an Airbus A319 owned by Aero Dili, Timor-Leste. Currently, major maintenance (C-Check) work is also underway at the PTDI Bandung hangar on Citilink Indonesia's Airbus A320 aircraft, which is a collaborative program between PTDI and GMF AeroAsia.

This strategic collaboration between PTDI and GMF AeroAsia is believed to have great potential in optimizing national MRO industry cooperation through strengthening technical capabilities, increasing workforce capacity, conducting training, and developing work tools (reverse engineering tools). “This collaboration not only opens up sustainable job opportunities for Citilink’s fleet and other potential customers, but also drives the overall improvement of PTDI’s capabilities,” said Daud Zaini, Head of the Maintenance Division at PTDI’s Assembly and Modification Center.

This initiative is also part of PTDI’s strategy to establish its hangar in Bandung as an integrated MRO service center, not only for military aircraft but also for commercial and general aviation aircraft. To date, PTDI's ACS services have been trusted by more than 50 customers spread across three continents, demonstrating global recognition of PTDI's capabilities and service quality. In line with this, PTDI will continue to obtain authorizations from international aviation authorities (foreign authority approval) as part of its strategic efforts to strengthen competitiveness and expand its global market reach. Indonesia's geographical condition as an archipelagic country makes the need for air transportation very high.

"Unfortunately, maintenance of commercial aircraft and private jets is still mostly carried out in neighboring countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and even Australia, where they have complete support and assistance through large, world-class MROs. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity for us to participate and engage in the global MRO competition, with the aim of advancing the national aviation industry by providing maintenance services for commercial aircraft and private jets operating within the territory of the Republic of Indonesia," added Daud Zaini.

Through the expansion of ACS's service scope, PTDI aims not only to provide high-quality aircraft maintenance services but also to foster the growth of a domestically independent and highly competitive MRO industry. All ACS work at PTDI is carried out by certified and experienced professionals, making quality a top priority. “The quality of our services is a guarantee that we will not compromise. Consistency with standards and customer satisfaction are the main foundations of every ACS job at PTDI,” said Daud Zaini. With this expansive move, PTDI affirms its position as a strategic partner in the national and regional aviation sector, while strengthening its contribution to an integrated and sustainable aerospace industry.
