Plumbon, Cirebon Regency (October 3rd) – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), in collaboration with the West Java Provincial Office of Food Crops and Horticulture (Distanhorti), conducted a Joint Sorghum Planting event at the UPTD Rice and Palawija Seed Center’s Service Unit land in Plumbon, Cirebon Regency, West Java. The event was attended by the Vice Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan; the Regent of Cirebon, Imron; prominent West Java community figure, Umuh Muchtar; and the Head of Distanhorti West Java, Dadan Hidayat.

This initiative is a follow-up to the Joint Commitment Agreement signed between PTDI and Distanhorti on August 23, 2025, regarding the optimization of sorghum cultivation in West Java.

Through this planting activity, PTDI reinforces its role in implementing its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) program, focusing on the food sector. PTDI will provide technical and technological support for sorghum processing, including the development and supply of sorghum processing machines, as well as training and technical assistance for farmers and MSMEs in operating equipment, applying agricultural technologies, and adopting best practices in post-harvest sorghum processing.

This program forms part of PTDI's commitment to accelerating the development of an innovative, productive, and self-reliant agricultural ecosystem by improving the quality and productivity of farming businesses. Sorghum was selected due to its strong potential as a strategic alternative food crop to support the diversification of food and horticultural commodities.

“As an aerospace company, our responsibility extends beyond aviation technology development we also hold a social responsibility to contribute to national food security. Through the Sorghum Center we established in 2023 with Pasundan University (Unpas) under the Paguyuban Pasundan umbrella, PTDI is committed to promoting food diversification and strengthening farmer self-sufficiency in West Java. We believe sorghum can be a sustainable solution to future food challenges,” said Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PTDI.

Meanwhile, West Java Vice Governor Erwan Setiawan stated:

“I hope the planting of sorghum seedlings in Cirebon Regency will further advance the development of sorghum and receive strong support from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture. In the future, we aim to prepare larger cultivation areas for sorghum. I extend my appreciation for the pentahelix collaboration between the government, PTDI, and all stakeholders. Through this initiative, I hope we can strengthen self-sufficiency and truly realize food security in Indonesia by 2027.”

PTDI, Distanhorti, and the West Java Provincial Government will facilitate the empowerment of farmer groups as program beneficiaries, and will organize training, outreach, and mentoring for farmers and MSMEs. This joint planting activity is expected to mark a new milestone in strengthening synergy between industry, government, and the agricultural community, toward achieving national food resilience and improving the welfare of West Java's people.

“I hope this joint planting serves as a strong momentum to encourage all of us to further develop and increase sorghum production in West Java. I also hope that our collaboration goes beyond just this planting activity, and can expand to include implementation of training on sorghum machine usage and maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability,” added Erwan Setiawan.
