Dirgantara Cup 2026, Brings the Spirit of Sportsmanship and Collaboration to PTDI’s 50th Anniversary
Bandung (15/08) – In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, PT
Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) (PTDI) is once again organizing a series of
sporting events through the Dirgantara Cup 2026. The event features
tournaments across various sports, including badminton, mini soccer,
basketball, billiards, padel, e-sports, and rapid chess, involving PTDI
employees, sports communities, and the general public.
Carrying the theme of PTDI’s 50th Anniversary, “Golden Legacy, Global
Horizon: Safeguarding National Sovereignty, Soaring on the Global Stage,”
the Dirgantara Cup 2026 serves as a platform to foster collaboration among
industry, sports communities, and society through a variety of sporting events
that combine the values of education, culture, sportsmanship, and togetherness.
The Dirgantara Cup 2026 commenced with the badminton tournament, held from 27
July to 19 August 2026 at the B.J. Habibie Auditorium, PKSN. This
was followed by the mini soccer tournament, taking place from 1–22 August
2026 at Bintang Sport Mini Soccer, Cimahi, and continues with
several other sporting competitions, including the PTDI Rapid Chess
Tournament, bringing together chess players from across Indonesia. The
entire series of events will culminate in PTDI’s 50th Anniversary celebration
on 29 August 2026 through the Runtainment program.
The PTDI Rapid Chess Tournament is being held today (15/08)
at the concourse of the B.J. Habibie Auditorium Building, PTDI. The
event is attended by the Chairman of the West Java Provincial Board of the
Indonesian Chess Association (PERCASI), Asep Mulyana; the Chairman
of the Bandung City National Sports Committee (KONI), Nuryadi;
and the Chairman of the Bandung City Board of PERCASI, Salahuddin Al
Ayubi. Organized in collaboration with PERCASI, the tournament is a
national-level rapid chess competition featuring 500 participants
representing 11 provinces across Indonesia.
The PTDI Rapid Chess Tournament has been held annually since 2024,
reflecting the growing enthusiasm of Indonesia’s chess community. The
participation of Indonesian Grandmaster Novendra Priasmoro and
Vietnamese Grandmaster Nguyen Duc Hoa further enhances the tournament’s
competitive standard while providing valuable competitive experience for all
participants.
PTDI Rapid Chess 2026 features several competition categories, including Master,
Non-Master, Veteran, and Junior, with junior divisions for elementary
school (SD) and junior high school (SMP) students. This wide range
of categories provides opportunities for players of different ages and skill
levels to compete in a prestigious national chess tournament.
Chess was selected as one of the sports featured in the Dirgantara Cup
2026 because it embodies values that closely align with the aerospace
industry, including strategic thinking, accuracy, concentration, precision,
situational awareness, and sound decision-making. These qualities are
fundamental not only in chess but also in aerospace, where every process
demands meticulous planning and careful calculation.
Using the Rapid Chess format, each player is allocated more than
10 minutes and less than 60 minutes to complete a game, in accordance with
the regulations of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE). For
PTDI Rapid Chess 2026, the time control is set at 10 minutes with a 3-second
increment per move. This format is shorter than classical chess but longer
than blitz chess, requiring players to effectively manage their time while
making swift and accurate strategic decisions. Standard chess rules remain in
effect, including castling, en passant, and pawn promotion. Players must
complete their games within the allotted time, making quick thinking,
precision, decision-making, and time management essential factors in achieving
victory.
“In chess, players are not only required to move quickly, but also to think
ahead, assess situations, evaluate risks, develop strategies, and make the
right decisions. The same principles apply in the aerospace industry. When
building an aircraft, there is no room for arbitrary decisions. Every process
requires thorough planning, precision, accuracy, and careful calculation.
Through chess, we hope to convey a simple message: to move forward, we must
think strategically, work with precision, and have the courage to make
decisions,” said Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PTDI.
Through the Dirgantara Cup 2026, PTDI celebrates five decades of
excellence by strengthening the spirit of togetherness, sportsmanship, and
collaboration among PTDI employees, sports communities, and the wider public.
This spirit represents the Golden Legacy built over the past fifty years
while reinforcing PTDI’s journey toward a Global Horizon and an even
greater role on the international stage.
