IAe Prepares Production of 110 Aircraft, Kertajati Majalengka to Become Aerospace Industry Base
DESKJABAR – Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) is turning Kertajati Airport in Majalengka into a site for ramping up production of the CN235 and N219 aircraft, with a target of 110 units. IAe's aircraft production business expansion is being carried out in partnership with BIJB on the western side of the airport.
Kertajati Airport in Majalengka is not only envisioned as an air transportation hub. Going forward, the area will also be developed into a national aerospace industry base covering aircraft manufacturing, an aircraft maintenance center (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul/MRO), aerostructures, and the development of unmanned aircraft or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
This step was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) and PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (Perseroda), or BIJB, regarding the development of the western side of Kertajati Airport as an aerospace industrial zone.
Strengthening national aviation competitiveness
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by IAe President Director Gita Amperiawan and BIJB Acting Director Ronald H. Sinaga at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 16, 2026.
The signing was witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana, and Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development AHY said the cooperation is part of the government's commitment to making Kertajati one of the national aerospace industry centers.
"The government is not only continuing to push for increased flight activity at Kertajati Airport, but also encouraging the emergence of an integrated aerospace industry ecosystem. It's now a matter of how we create the market," AHY said.
In the initial phase, IAe and BIJB will optimize existing facilities, including Kertajati Airport's runway, to support flight testing of various IAe products. These products include fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters (rotary wing), and unmanned aircraft (UAS) for both defense and commercial needs.
Aircraft operational services
The development of this industrial zone is also part of IAe's strategy to strengthen its aerospace services comprehensively, from testing and certification, maintenance, and after-sales support, to services throughout the aircraft's operational life cycle (life cycle support).
IAe President Director Gita Amperiawan, while reading remarks from the Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), expressed optimism that Kertajati will grow into a national aerospace industry center.
"We are very confident that a robust national aerospace industry can be built here in Kertajati. There will be manufacturing, MRO, and aerostructures, and of course this will become a collaboration between industry, central government, regional government, and global partners," he said.
The development of the industrial zone at Kertajati Airport is also a strategic step by IAe to boost the company's production capacity. This aligns with orders for the procurement of 80 CN235 aircraft and 30 N219 aircraft, bringing the total to 110 aircraft.
In addition to supporting increased production capacity, the industrial zone is expected to accelerate the commercialization of the N219 aircraft while strengthening the readiness of IAe's production facilities and infrastructure to meet the needs of the national aerospace industry.
Through this synergy, Kertajati is expected not only to serve as an air transportation gateway in West Java, but also to grow into a manufacturing and service hub for the aerospace industry, capable of strengthening Indonesia's competitiveness in the aviation sector.
