The Indonesian Air Force Expands Its Fleet as PTDI Completes Delivery of the Eighth Multi-Purpose NC212i Aircraft

Bandung (PRSSNIJabar) – The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) has further strengthened its air fleet with the delivery of a new multi-purpose NC212i aircraft by PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). Designed to support a wide range of operations, the aircraft is capable of performing personnel transport, weather modification (rainmaking), and aerial photography missions.

Bearing tail number AX-2135, the aircraft is the eighth of a total of nine NC212i aircraft ordered by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (MoD) for the Indonesian Air Force. Departing from PTDI's Delivery Center in Bandung, the aircraft was ferried to Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base in Malang, where it will be operated by the 4th Air Squadron.

The delivery reflects PTDI's commitment to fulfilling Indonesia's national defense equipment (alutsista) requirements while enhancing the operational readiness of the Indonesian Air Force through a versatile aircraft capable of carrying out multiple mission profiles.

PTDI Production Director, Dena Hendriana, stated that the delivery of the eighth aircraft marks an important milestone in the completion of the NC212i procurement contract with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.

“Alhamdulillah, today we are conducting the ferry flight as part of our commitment to fulfilling the Indonesian Ministry of Defense's order. This is the eighth of the nine aircraft ordered. God willing, this aircraft will strengthen the operational capabilities of the Indonesian Air Force unit based in Malang in safeguarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. We also hope the ferry flight from Bandung to Malang proceeds smoothly and that the entire crew arrives safely,” said Dena on Thursday (July 30).

Unlike a conventional transport aircraft, this NC212i features a special multi-role configuration that enables a single platform to perform multiple missions. In addition to troop and personnel transport, the aircraft is capable of supporting weather modification (rainmaking) operations for disaster mitigation and other national needs, as well as conducting aerial photography missions.

This versatility is one of the NC212i's key strengths, as the aircraft can be configured to meet specific user requirements, making it highly adaptable for a wide range of operational missions.

To further enhance its flight performance, the aircraft is equipped with MTV-27 propellers manufactured by MT-Propeller of Germany, which are certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The advanced propeller system offers several benefits, including lower noise levels, reduced vibration, and improved stability during flight operations.

Prior to its delivery to Malang, the aircraft successfully completed a series of acceptance tests and received its Flight Acceptance Certificate on 9 July 2026. The ferry flight to Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base was led by Lieutenant Colonel (Pilot) Andika Ardyagana as Pilot in Command (PIC), accompanied by Captain Irvan Fajar as co-pilot.

Lieutenant Colonel (Pilot) Andika Ardyagana stated that all testing phases were completed successfully and demonstrated the aircraft's optimal performance.

“Throughout the development and testing process, the aircraft achieved its expected performance targets. Following this ferry flight, it will proceed to the formal acceptance process by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and the Indonesian Air Force. We hope this aircraft will further strengthen the Indonesian Air Force's capabilities in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty. We also hope PTDI continues to grow and support the Government's strategic programs while meeting Indonesia's defense needs,” he said.

To date, PTDI has delivered eight NC212i aircraft to the Indonesian Air Force in several operational configurations, including Troop Transport, Rainmaking & Camera, and Navigation Training. The ninth and final aircraft is currently under production and is scheduled for delivery in October 2027, marking the completion of the procurement contract for nine NC212i aircraft with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.
