Distanhorti West Java and PTDI Plant Sorghum in Cirebon

BIPOL.CO, BANDUNG CITY – The West Java Agricultural and Horticultural Service (Distanhorti) and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) Hold Joint Sorghum Planting Activity in Cirebon

The West Java Agricultural and Horticultural Service (Distanhorti) and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) carried out a joint sorghum planting event at the UPTD Seed Center for Rice and Crops in Plumbon, Cirebon Regency, West Java.

The planting ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan, Cirebon Regent, Imron, as well as prominent figures from West Java, such as Umuh Muchtar, and the Head of Distanhorti West Java, Dadan Hidayat.

This activity is a follow-up to the signing of a joint commitment between PTDI and Distanhorti West Java on August 23, 2025, regarding the optimization of sorghum cultivation in West Java.

Through this planting activity, PTDI reaffirms its role in implementing its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, focusing specifically on the food sector.

PTDI will provide technical support and technology related to sorghum processing, including the development and provision of sorghum processing machines, as well as training and technical guidance for farmers and SMEs on the use of equipment, technology, and sorghum agricultural product processing practices.

This program is part of PTDI’s commitment to accelerating the creation of an innovative, productive, and independent agricultural ecosystem through the improvement of the quality and productivity of farming businesses. Sorghum was chosen for its potential as a strategic alternative food commodity for the diversification of food crops and horticulture.

"As an aerospace company, we not only play a role in developing aviation technology, but we also have a social responsibility to support national food security. Through the Sorghum Center, which we established in 2023 with the University of Pasundan (Unpas) under the Paguyuban Pasundan foundation, PTDI is committed to promoting food diversification and strengthening the independence of farmers in West Java. We believe that sorghum can be a sustainable solution to address future food challenges," said PTDI’s President Director, Gita Amperiawan.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan, expressed his hopes that the planting of sorghum seedlings in Cirebon would further develop the crop and receive a positive response from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, leading to the preparation of larger areas for sorghum cultivation.

"I would like to thank the collaborative pentahelix partnership between the government, PTDI, and all stakeholders involved. I hope that through this activity, we can further develop independence and achieve food security in Indonesia by 2027," he said.

PTDI, Distanhorti, and the West Java Provincial Government will facilitate the empowerment of farming groups as the beneficiaries of the program, and will organize training, socialization, and support for farmers and SMEs. This planting activity is expected to be a starting point for strengthening the synergy between the industrial sector, government, and farmers, in order to achieve national food security and improve the welfare of the people of West Java.

"Through this joint planting, I hope it will be a good momentum and drive us all to develop and increase sorghum production in West Java. I also hope that our collaboration won’t end with just this planting activity, but can be further developed in the future, including the implementation of training on the use and maintenance of sorghum processing machines to ensure their sustainability," added Erwan Setiawan.
