From Belgian License to Independence: PTDI Offers 70mm Rockets at DSA 2026
PT
Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is once again strengthening its presence in the
Southeast Asian defense market by attending Defense Services Asia (DSA) 2026.
At the exhibition, held at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, PTDI carries a strategic
mission: offering 70mm rocket systems as a reliable weapons solution for the
region, including Malaysia. PTDI's expertise in producing 70mm rockets is
nothing new. This expertise stems from a license obtained from Forges de
Zeebrugge (FZ), Belgium, in the 1980s. Through this collaboration, PTDI (then
IPTN) successfully acquired the Folding Fin Aerial Rocket (FFAR) production
technology, which remains the standard for air weapons in various countries.
For
four decades, PTDI has consistently produced 2.75-inch (70mm) FFAR rockets in
the Mk40 and Mk4 variants. Beyond assembly, PTDI has achieved a high level of
production independence. Mastery of technology in rocket motor components,
warheads, and fins and nozzles makes this product one of the defense equipment
with a significant local content (TKDN). At the 2026 DSA, PTDI saw a
significant opportunity to integrate this 70mm rocket system into Malaysia's
defense needs. Given that the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is a loyal user
of the Bandung-manufactured CN-235 220 aircraft, offering this weapons system
was a logical expansion step.
In
addition to the CN-235 platform's proven reliability in transport and maritime
patrol (MSA) missions, PTDI's 70mm rockets are designed for flexible use on
various helicopter and light attack aircraft platforms. PTDI's presence under
the Holding Defend ID umbrella this time emphasizes its role as a total
solutions provider. In addition to offering aircraft platforms and after-sales
services (MRO and modification), the provision of 70mm rocket ammunition
demonstrates PTDI's ability to support the long-term operational independence
of its users.
"Our
participation in DSA 2026 is a momentum to offer product reliability that has
been proven for decades. Our 70mm rocket, which originated from licensed
Belgian technology and has now been developed independently, is a
cost-effective solution for defense needs in the region," said Moh Arif
Faisal, Director of Commerce, Technology & Development of PTDI, in a press
release. (Bayu Pamungkas)
