IAe Prepares to Produce 110 Aircraft, Kertajati Majalengka Set to Become Aerospace Industry Base

IAe Turns Kertajati Airport into Aircraft Production Hub, Targeting 110 CN235 and N219 Units

DESKJABAR – Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) is making Kertajati Airport in Majalengka a site for boosting production of CN235 and N219 aircraft, with a target of 110 units. This production business expansion is being carried out by IAe in partnership with BIJB on the airport's west side.

Kertajati Airport, Majalengka, is not only projected as an air transportation center. Going forward, the area will also be developed into a base for the national aerospace industry, encompassing aircraft manufacturing, an aircraft maintenance center (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul/MRO), aerostructure, and the development of unmanned aerial vehicles or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

This step was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) and PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (Perseroda), or BIJB, regarding the development of the west side area of Kertajati Airport as an aerospace industrial zone.

Strengthening National Aviation Competitiveness

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by IAe's President Director, Gita Amperiawan, and BIJB's Acting Director, Ronald H. Sinaga, at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 16, 2026. The signing was witnessed by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Deputy Minister of Transportation, Suntana, and Majalengka Regent, Eman Suherman.

Coordinating Minister AHY stated that the cooperation is part of the government's commitment to making Kertajati one of the national aerospace industry hubs.

"The government is not only continuing to work on increasing flight activity at Kertajati Airport, but is also encouraging the emergence of an integrated aerospace industry ecosystem. All that remains is how we create the market," said AHY.

In the initial phase, IAe and BIJB will optimize the facilities already available, including Kertajati Airport's runway, to support flight testing of various IAe products. These products include fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters (rotary wing), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS), for both defense and commercial needs.

Aircraft Operational Services

The development of this industrial area is also part of IAe's strategy to strengthen its aerospace services comprehensively, ranging from testing, certification, and maintenance, to after-sales support and services throughout the aircraft's operational life cycle (life cycle support).

IAe's President Director, Gita Amperiawan, while reading remarks on behalf of the Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), expressed optimism that Kertajati would grow into a national aerospace industry center.

"We firmly believe that a robust national aerospace industry can be built here in Kertajati. There will be manufacturing, MRO, and aerostructure, and of course this will become a collaboration between industry, the central government, regional government, and global partners," he said.

The development of the industrial area at Kertajati Airport is also a strategic step for IAe to increase the company's production capacity. This is in line with the assignment to procure 80 units of CN235 aircraft and 30 units of N219 aircraft, bringing the total to 110 aircraft. In addition to supporting increased production capacity, the industrial area is expected to accelerate the commercialization of the N219 aircraft while also strengthening the readiness of IAe's production facilities and infrastructure to meet the needs of the national aerospace industry.

With this synergy, Kertajati is expected not only to become an air transportation gateway for West Java, but also to develop into a manufacturing and aerospace service hub capable of strengthening Indonesia's competitiveness in the aviation sector.
