PTDI Targets Global Market with N219, Facing Minimal Competition in 19-Passenger Aircraft Segment

PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is optimistic about capturing opportunities in the global aviation market through the N219 aircraft, particularly in the 19-passenger propeller aircraft segment. This optimism arises amid the limited number of players operating in this specific market segment.
President Director of PTDI, Gita Amperiawan, stated that the 19-passenger aircraft segment holds great potential. This is primarily seen from PTDI's long-standing experience in developing similar classes of aircraft. In addition, Indonesia is one of the world's largest pioneer aviation markets, leaving a wide-open demand for aircraft capable of serving regions with limited infrastructure.
According to Gita, one of the main selling points of the N219 is that the mastery of design and production lies entirely in Indonesian hands. Unlike several previous aircraft developed through cooperation and licensing with foreign companies, the N219 is described as a product truly designed by the national industry.
"If we look at the CN series, there is a 'C' in front, which stands for CASA. Meanwhile, for the N series, it is 100 percent the work of the nation's children, boasting the highest local content with a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of nearly 45 percent," said Gita when met during the peak celebration of PTDI's 50th Anniversary at the PTDI Complex, Bandung, West Java, on Saturday, August 29.
PTDI assesses that the development of the N219 aligns with Indonesia's need to strengthen connectivity in the outermost, frontier, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. The aerospace industry is expected not only to serve as a symbol of high technology mastery but also to provide transportation solutions for hard-to-reach areas.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebration series, PTDI is also encouraging the strengthening of the national aviation industry ecosystem. One of the initiatives was a National Symposium held with Bappenas on August 24, 2026, which discussed the development of Indonesia's aerospace ecosystem.
Furthermore, PTDI inaugurated a Training Center in collaboration with the Minister of Manpower to support the training and competency testing of human resources in the aerospace sector.
Gita noted that strengthening technological capabilities and human resources forms part of PTDI's strategy to enhance the national industry's competitiveness in the international market.
"Our hope is to demonstrate to our nation that we are capable. Yes, we have a high-tech industry with a long history at PT DI, and insyaallah, PT DI along with our entire national aerospace ecosystem is ready to provide solutions for this nation," Gita stated.
He also appreciated the government's support in driving the development of the aerospace industry through policies and regulations. PTDI hopes this support will bolster the national aviation industry's position while opening up greater opportunities for Indonesian products in the global market.
