PTDI Boosts N219 Aircraft Production, Eyes Market of 180 Units
PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) is ramping up production capacity for the 19-passenger N219 commercial aircraft to serve pioneer flight routes across underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions. This strategic initiative was presented during the TNI Fair at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, on Saturday (19/9/2026).
As reported by Detik Finance, the N219 is engineered to reach regions with limited land and sea accessibility. Beyond addressing civilian and commercial demands, the aircraft is also manufactured to support defense and military operations.
PTDI VP of Business Development & Marketing Heber M. F. Panjaitan explained that the commercial potential for the aircraft remains extensive.
"For commercial use, the potential exceeds 150 units to serve pioneer routes—specifically for the N219. So the viable market share is quite substantial. Additionally, there are 30 units assigned by the Ministry of Defense that I mentioned earlier, 30 units commissioned by Presidential assignment to fulfill the requirements of various ministries and state agencies. So the addressable market is indeed sizable: 150 plus 30 equals 180 units," said Heber M. F. Panjaitan, VP of Business Development & Marketing at PTDI.
PTDI aims for a phased ramp-up in manufacturing capacity. In 2026, the company secured contracts for 13 units, covering commercial orders, an Indonesian Army (TNI AD) assignment, and an order from PT BIBU Agro Maritim. An additional 3 units of the N219 have reached the Procurement of Goods and Services Agreement (PPBJ) stage with the Ministry of Defense.
"For the N219 specifically, current firm contracts include 6 units for the Indonesian Army, 4 from Mitra Aviasi Perkasa, and 3 from BIBU Panji Sakti," said Heber M. F. Panjaitan.
Regarding market pricing, a standard N219 unit is priced in the range of several million US dollars, with value adjustments depending on customer modification requirements.
"Looking at this aircraft, our pricing stands around 9 million to 10 million dollars per unit for the basic configuration. So you simply multiply that baseline per-unit price, unless there are specific modifications, which may lead to an increase in cost," said Heber M. F. Panjaitan.
PTDI's total manufacturing output target for 2026 is set at 28 units across a mix of NC212, CN235, and N219 fixed-wing models, as well as helicopters. Production expansions will be continuously driven to meet export targets across the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America.
"Our production capacity for 2026 stands at 28 units, comprising a mix of 6 NC212i units, 4 CN235s, 2 N219s, and 16 helicopters. We target gradual increases through CN235 expansion to 6–8 units per year, eventually reaching 10–12 units annually. Then for the N219, we aim to scale from 6 up to 12 units per year. Our target export markets naturally encompass the Asia-Pacific region, Africa, and Latin America," said Heber M. F. Panjaitan.
In addition to showcasing the N219 at the TNI Fair on September 19–20, 2026, PTDI displayed defense technologies, drone developments, and engine maintenance capabilities through its subsidiary, PT Nusantara Turbin dan Propulsi.
