PTDI Boosts N219 Production Capacity, Dedicated Hangar Readied to Strengthen Market Position
Bandung (BRS) – State-owned aerospace manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is stepping up development of its N219 aircraft by expanding dedicated production facilities. The company inaugurated a new N219 final assembly hangar in Bandung on Wednesday (26/8/2026), a move aimed at boosting output and speeding up deliveries to meet growing market demand.
The new facility raises PTDI's N219 production capacity to 12 units per year across various configurations. The expansion forms part of the company's strategy to capture demand for multi-purpose aircraft, which it sees as having strong long-term prospects, particularly for serving inter-regional connectivity needs across Indonesia.
The hangar was officially opened by PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan together with Deputy Head of Bappenas Febrian Alphyanto, and was attended by West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan, N219 buyers, vendors, and other stakeholders. The inauguration was held alongside PTDI's 50th Anniversary National Symposium, themed "Strengthening Air Connectivity for Equitable Development, Economic Growth, and Indonesia's Aviation Industry Independence."
Speaking to reporters, Gita said strengthening production facilities has become essential amid rising interest in the N219. On the commercial side, PTDI has received three additional orders, bringing the total to seven units.
"Various N219 variants are ready to be built, depending on what customers order. With this new dedicated hangar, production capacity now reaches 12 units per year," Gita said.
He added that the growing number of buyers reflects rising market confidence in the N219's capabilities. PTDI continues to develop variants tailored to different needs, including passenger and cargo transport configurations.
During the event, PTDI symbolically handed over one completed N219 unit to PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa, which had previously ordered four cargo-variant units.
Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Bappenas Febrian Alphyanto described the N219 program as a strategic step for PTDI to meet the need for multi-purpose aircraft suited to Indonesia's geography. He noted that the N219's short-runway capability gives it the potential to serve dozens of regencies, particularly areas that have long faced limited access to air transportation.
"Multi-purpose aircraft like the N219 are badly needed for transport, cargo, medical evacuation, and even tourism — especially in Indonesia's outermost, frontier, and underdeveloped regions," Febrian said.
The N219 is designed with Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) capability, allowing it to operate from short runways of around 800 meters. That feature is one of the aircraft's key advantages in supporting logistics distribution and opening up connectivity to remote areas. The aircraft is also intended to support cargo transport needs across regions ranging from Papua and Maluku to inland Kalimantan. PTDI noted that N219 production incorporates a special domestically produced material blend.
With expanded production facilities and a growing order book, PTDI hopes the N219 will not only develop as a national aerospace industry product, but also become part of efforts to strengthen air connectivity and promote balanced regional economic growth.
