50th Anniversary: PTDI Strengthens Strategic Collaboration in Air Connectivity Development

PTDI's 50th anniversary marks a milestone in strengthening strategic collaboration for the development of air connectivity, the aerospace industry, and the independence of Indonesian aviation. 

INFOBAIK I BANDUNG – Entering its 50th year, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) or PTDI is making this five-decade milestone a moment to strengthen its collaboration strategy in support of air connectivity, equitable development, and the independence of the national aviation industry.

This direction emerged during the National Symposium marking PTDI's 50th Anniversary, held in Bandung on Wednesday (26/8/2026). The event carried the theme "Strengthening Air Connectivity for Equitable Development, Economic Growth, and the Independence of Indonesia's Aviation Industry."

This symposium is part of a series of events for PTDI's 50th anniversary, as well as a forum to strengthen collaboration and formulate strategic steps in developing air connectivity, particularly pioneer flights and the national aerospace industry ecosystem.

PTDI President Director Gita Amperiawan said that Indonesia is an archipelagic nation. Connectivity is not a luxury but a basic development need. Many regions require aircraft capable of reaching short runways, carrying people, logistics, health services, and economic hope to various corners of the archipelago.

"PTDI is ready to work and ready to fulfill the trust given to us. Let us build the aerospace ecosystem as a strategic investment, not only for today, but for the sustainability of technology, national resilience, and the future of Indonesia's generations," said Gita Amperiawan on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

The symposium was attended by the Deputy Minister of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas), Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, as keynote speaker; Deputy Minister of Health, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus; Deputy Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan; Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan; Director General of Defense Potential (Ditjen Pothan) of the Ministry of Defense, Sri Yanto; President Director of PT Len Industri (Persero), Joga Dharma Setiawan; as well as Deputy President Commissioner of PTDI, Bagus Puruhito.

The event also involved representatives from government, legislature, flight operators, and national and global aerospace industry players.

In his keynote address, Deputy Minister of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas) Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard stated that the challenge ahead is no longer simply proving that Indonesia is capable of building aircraft.

The next challenge is turning that capability into national economic strength through strengthening the local supply chain. An aircraft never stands alone. Behind it lies a supply chain of components, materials, avionics, software, research, certification, and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO).

Therefore, the question for PTDI's next 50 years is how many components are made in Indonesia, how many national companies are part of the supply chain, and how much added value stays within the country.

"We must unite three things that have so far been separate: demand, supply, and financing, within one consistent national policy to support pioneer routes. We must view pioneer routes not merely as a social subsidy, but as an investment in regional economic development, in which the N219 can take on a leading role as a connector for national connectivity," he explained.

The National Symposium marking PTDI's 50th Anniversary serves as a strategic forum to strengthen cross-sector collaboration between the government, the national aerospace industry, and flight operators in support of equitable development, economic growth, public services, and the independence of the national aviation industry, particularly in underdeveloped, outermost, remote, and border regions (3TP).

Discussions covered the provision of pioneer flight policies, the discontinuation of certain operations and business flight models, the development of the national aerospace industry ecosystem, and the utilization of the N219 as one of the solutions for air connectivity across various regions of Indonesia.

Inauguration of the N219 FAL Hangar and Symbolic Handover of the First Cutting of the Commercial N219

The series of events continued with the inauguration of the N219 FAL Hangar, marked by the signing of an inscription by Deputy Minister of PPN/Bappenas, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, witnessed by Deputy Minister of Health, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus; Deputy Governor of West Java, Erwan Setiawan; Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan; Director General of Defense Potential, Ministry of Defense, Sri Yanto; President Director of PT Len Industri (Persero), Joga Dharma Setiawan; PTDI President Director, Gita Amperiawan; and PTDI Deputy President Commissioner, Bagus Puruhito.

The event continued with the symbolic handover of the First Cutting Part of the commercial N219 to the President Director of PT Mitra Aviasi Perkasa (PT MAP), Septo Adjie Sudiro, witnessed by Deputy Minister of Health, Benjamin Paulus Octavianus.

The inauguration of the N219 FAL Hangar and the symbolic handover of the First Cutting Part of the commercial N219 form part of PTDI's efforts to strengthen manufacturing readiness while supporting the development of the N219 as one of the solutions for national air connectivity, particularly in regions with challenging geographical characteristics.

Strengthened Collaboration Strategy for Aerospace Ecosystem Development

On this occasion, PTDI also agreed to a number of strategic partnerships with local governments, ministries, as well as industry partners and global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). These partnerships cover strengthening business and investment, developing industrial capabilities, utilizing PTDI products for air connectivity and health services, and strengthening industrial and commercial cooperation at the global level.

The signings began with a sale-and-purchase contract for 3 (three) N219 aircraft units between PTDI and PT BIBU Panji Sakti, as part of efforts to expand the use of the N219 for air connectivity needs. PTDI then signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mamberamo Raya Regency Government, handed over by the Regent of Mamberamo Raya, Robby W. Rumansara, concerning cooperation on the operationalization of N219 aircraft in Mamberamo Raya Regency.

To support business development and industrial capability, PTDI signed an MoU with Ravelware, as well as an MoU with PT Cipta Teknologi Mandiri, concerning plans for business development and capability building in the production and aerostructure sectors.

PTDI also signed an MoU with PT Invest Indo International concerning strategic cooperation in business development, investment, supply chain, and operations.

Meanwhile, through an Industrial and Commercial Agreement (ICA) with Bell Textron Inc., PTDI strengthened its production and commercial cooperation through collaboration in helicopter sales and marketing, customer-specific helicopter customization, and establishing PTDI's role as a delivery center and Bell Authorized Maintenance Center (AMC) for the Bell 505 and Bell 412 helicopters.

This agreement also serves as a foundation for further industrial cooperation development, including covering and recognizing local content, countertrade, and/or offset arrangements in Indonesia. The series of activities also included the presentation of a video regarding a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Lassac, as part of strengthening PTDI's network of cooperation with strategic partners.

Following the series of partnership signings, the event continued with a doorstop session and a panel discussion featuring five panelists: Director of the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations (DKPPU), Sokhib Al Rokhman; Deputy for Infrastructure at Bappenas, Abdul Malik Sadat Idris; Senator for Papua, David Harold Waromi; CEO of Ravelware, Randy Budi Wicaksono; and President Director of PT MAP, Septo Adjie Sudiro.

Through the National Symposium marking its 50th Anniversary, PTDI affirmed its commitment to continue strengthening collaboration with the government, flight operators, industry partners, and other stakeholders in promoting equitable access to air transportation while strengthening the national aerospace ecosystem. With strengthened manufacturing capabilities, product innovation, and the strategic partnerships built, PTDI remains optimistic that it can deliver aviation solutions suited to Indonesia's needs and contribute to achieving the independence and competitiveness of the national aerospace industry.
